Dressing Appropriately

In accordance with CBE Administrative Regulation 6010, all staff and students are expected to support appropriate standards of dress and grooming which reflect the school’s purpose as a place of learning and a place of work. Respectful attire appropriate for a place of learning and work is the guideline students are expected to use when choosing clothing. As such we request that students wear:

  • Appropriate clothing for school as a learning and work environment that we all are a part of. For example, as a guideline we ask that students avoid revealing clothing, wearing short shorts or skirts (especially for comfort in sitting on the carpet), and any logos or words on shirts must be appropriate for a school setting.
  • Appropriate clothing for a particular activity. Student’s clothing should allow for full participation in regular school classes, Physical Education and Wellness (PE&W) classes in the gym and special activities.
  • Appropriate clothing for safety in all activities, whether outdoor play, Physical Education and Wellness (PE&W) tasks and games in the gym, etc.

Students also should be dressed to go outside for recess and lunch in snow, rain or shine, as our weather can change drastically through the day. We use -20°C as our guideline, where if it is warmer than that, we will be going outside. Our temperature within the school can also vary from area to area, so please remember to dress your child in layers that enable them to cool off (perhaps during a PE class) and warm up if they are in a classroom that is at a cooler temperature.

Please label all items of clothing as we try to return lost and found items to their owners. We will display the lost and found items on an on-going basis in the hallway down near the gym.

Indoor Shoes

We are proud of our school and would like to maintain an optimal indoor environment for students. As a result, we require that students have shoes or boots for outdoor wear, as well as shoes intended only for indoor wear and appropriate for Physical Education in the Gym. The indoor shoes will remain in the school but must also be suitable for outdoor use in case of emergency.

Running shoes are required for physical education classes. Students without footwear will still be required to participate in fire drills. Outdoor footwear must be removed upon entering the school.

This is a safety requirement and assists us in keeping our school clean. It is preferable that these shoes be non-marking runners that can be used both in the classroom and gymnasium.

We thank all parents/guardians for their support with this.
