Student Entrances/ Exits
All students have a specified entrance that is designated for their class for entrance and dismissal purposes. The exterior doors are numbered and students know which door they are to use.
Checking in at the Office
For safety and security reasons parents and visitors must enter the school by the front door and check in with the office.
Locked Doors
We will be following the district protocol leaving outside doors locked for the duration of the day starting at 8:30. Doors will be open for those students returning from lunch and will be locked again after entry.
-
Families will need to use the white doorbell for access after 8:30 am.
-
Our security camera will project an image to the office so we can unlock the door for you.
-
We will explain to students how the system works in the event they are outside after school and require emergency adult assistance through the front door.
A friendly reminder that school ends at 12:35 PM on Fridays. Please pick your children in a timely matter.
If you have messages to relay to your children please communicate with them before they leave for school in the mornings.
Student Pick-up at Dismissal
Students will be dismissed from their assigned door at the end of the day. Teachers will manage a staggered dismissal. Please determine a meeting spot and observe social distancing rules while you are waiting for your child.
Emergency Communication
We have a program available to us that allows us to send out an email message to all parents in the school who have provided us with an email address. For example during the Calgary flood many schools used this method to inform parents whether their school was open or not. In the event of an evacuation we would also attempt to contact parents by phone. Please keep us informed of any changes to your emergency contact phone numbers or emails.
General Media Release
As the world around us continues to advance at a rapid rate the advent of technology has changed how we communicate. The general media release that parents sign will give permission for students’ school work to be posted on the school website. Students in photographs would not be identified by name.
- If student work is published on the website only first names will be used. Student photographs will be used as part of or banner on our home page and also in the showcase section of our website.
- Protocols for the collection of General Media Release forms for the 2020-2021 school year are being developed. At this point in time, no student faces or identifiable work will be posted on our Twitter Accounts.
Lockdowns
All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.
Evacuation Procedures
In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
Video Surveillance Technology
The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act section 4. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.
Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.
For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
