Dear Silver Springs School Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the last couple of days of Spring Break. I hope that you had a chance to relax and spend time with family and friends. On Tuesday we return to school with only three short and jam-packed months remaining in this school year. We look forward to the promise of spring with warmer weather, melting snow, sunshine, and all the exciting learning opportunities planned for the coming months.
School Conferences: Thank you to all families who attended our March Student-led School Conferences. It was heartwarming to see how excited the students were about touring their families through the school, sharing their work, and celebrating their accomplishments. Our teachers appreciated this opportunity and format of connecting to talk about student growth and next steps in learning. We are so proud of our students, for who they are, the growth they have made as learners, and what they contribute to our amazing school community.
We were also grateful for the dinner sponsored by our School Council. Many thanks to Kara Vincent for preparing a delicious meal. Our teachers and student teachers felt appreciated and spoiled!
Calgary West Soccer Residency: Our first week back starts with a second week of soccer residency with the Calgary West Football Association. We look forward to seeing our students continue to refine their soccer skills with the talented and energetic team from CWS. We hope our students can apply this learning to student-led games at recess time.
Planning for Next Year: At our February School Council meeting, a presentation was given on the CBE’s school development planning process, the fees and budget process, and how schools are funded within our system. During the month of April, we will begin our spring staffing process. We are currently projected to have 270 students attending our school for the 2024- 2025 school year. Thank you to our families for completing the online Returning to School survey. We have also sent home blue forms to those families we have not yet heard from. This information will allow us to make a more accurate student count and will help us with our decisions for the upcoming year. At our June 11, 2024, School Council meeting, we will be sharing our staffing decisions for the upcoming school year.
Tax Receipts for Lunch Supervision: Did you know that you can claim your lunch supervision payment as a childcare expense on your income tax return? Tax receipts for lunch supervision will be available on your MyCBE/PowerSchool parent account by February 28. Tax receipts will not be mailed out and will be available online only.
