Dear Silver Springs School Parents and Guardians,
It was lovely to see students return to school on Monday excited to share their stories of holiday celebrations and winter adventures. We have already jumped right back into new learning tasks and are continuing our learning journey together.
January is a busy month for students and staff. All students in kindergarten to grade 3 will be participating in Alberta provincial assessments in literacy and numeracy from January 13- 30. For more detailed information regarding these assessments, please see the information sheet attached to this email. Understanding-Universal-Screeners.pdf
Additionally, report cards will be available to parents online at the end of the month. All report cards will be accessible through your child’s MyCBE account. More details are available on our website.
Soccer Residency: We began the year 2025 with a week-long PE residency with Calgary West Football Club. Students were very engaged in learning with this passionate team from CWS. Our students continued to develop their soccer skills and common understanding of game rules and play. A thank you goes out to our school council for funding this opportunity.
Kindergarten Registration: Kindergarten Registration for the 2025-26 school year begins January 13, 2025 at 9:00am. For children to be eligible to register and attend kindergarten next school year, they must turn five years old on or before Dec. 31, 2025. Families with students designated to Silver Springs School but who attended elsewhere for kindergarten are also encouraged to enroll as soon as possible for grade 1. Should you have any questions about registering your child, please contact the school office at 403-777-6070 ext. 0. For more detailed information on how to register and what is required, please visit the CBE website: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/Get-Ready-Get-Set-Kindergarten.aspx
Wonder Day #2: On Friday, January 17, we will hold our second of four Wonder Days at Silver Springs School from 9:00-10:30pm. On this day, our teachers get to share some of their interests and passions, allowing our students to explore some of their own. Through these opportunities, we hope that our students will create new connections and friendships in the context of learning. There will be 12 different activities offered where students will be learning, creating, and exploring with students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Students will be placed in a group from one of their top choices of activities. Students have the opportunity to explore a different activity for each of the coming Wonder Days with the next two in March and May.
Drama Days with Quest Theatre: On January 20 & 21, we will welcome a member of the Quest Theatre team to our school to help lead our classes in two Drama days. This program consists of a series of drama activities and games chosen for grades kindergarten to six that target the following specific classroom wellness impacts: Creative problem solving with space to make mistakes, Relationship building with dignity & Physical literacy with a framework. Each class will be participating in one 45-minute session over the two days.
Attendance: When your child will be late or absent, please call the Attendance Line to report the information. We need to know each day when your child will not be at school and the reason for their absence (e.g. ill, doctor’s appointment, family event, etc). The Attendance Line is available 24hrs/7days at 403-777-6070 extension 1 or you may email the school at SilverSprings@cbe.ab.ca. Reporting lates and absences consistently means that our office staff can complete daily attendance quickly to ensure the safety of all students. We would like to remind families that if your child(ren) will be away for an extended absence (greater than 1 week) to please contact the office and obtain an extended absence form.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp,
Principal, Silver Springs School
