Dear Silver Springs School Parents and Guardians,
Upcoming School Conferences: On March 21st and 22nd, 2024, we are holding our next round of school learning conferences. We will be holding these as student-led conferences for our grade 1-6 students. That means your child will take the lead in sharing their work and some of the learning experiences they engage in at school. You will still be able to connect with your child’s teacher to talk about celebrations and next steps in learning. Thursday, March 21st is a regular school day for students in grades 1-6 (no school for Kindergarten students). Friday, March 22nd there is no school for all students. Week-Ahead Messages: In consultation with our admin team and School Council, moving forward, I will be sending out our Week Ahead messages on Saturday mornings at 10:30am. This is in hopes that families will have more time to read important messages about upcoming school events. Please note that with Spring Break, the next Week Ahead message will not be sent out until Saturday, March 30th, 2024.
New Social Studies Curriculum Input: On Thursday, March 14, 2024 the new draft K–6 Social Studies curriculum was shared by Alberta's education minister. Schools will need some time to look at the details as the new draft curriculum has been adapted from the 2021 version. The ministry’s recent efforts to consult with teachers is an important step forward, but continued parent and teacher involvement in curriculum development going forward will be crucial to ensure success. If interested, please take some time to review the draft curriculum and share any concerns or feedback directly with the ministry using the links below.
Lunch Supervision Overdue Accounts: The Student Fees department will be sending any unpaid lunch supervision accounts from the 2022-23 school year to a collection agency starting on Wednesday February 15. If you still have unpaid fees from last year, you can come into the school office and pay by credit card in the office. (Cash and cheques not accepted at the school office.)
Tax Receipts for Lunch Supervision: Did you know that you can claim your lunch supervision payment as a childcare expense on your income tax return? Tax receipts for lunch supervision will be available on your MyCBE/PowerSchool parent account by February 28. Tax receipts will not be mailed out and will be available online only. AGM and School Council Board Positions: Our AGM will be held at our next meeting, on April 9, 2024 at 6:30pm. Please see the info below on open positions:

A note about Fun Lunches: If your child is absent from school on the day of the fun lunch and you have ordered, please let the front office know if you plan to pick up the snack/lunch when you call the absentee line. Otherwise, the lunch or snack will be donated. We appreciate your understanding.
