Dear Silver Springs School Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to the many families who joined us for our Evergreen Theatre Showcase on Friday afternoon. In just one week, students grew-a-show with the artists and were so proud to share their learning and performances with an audience. Combining arts with science education provided a basis towards creating a deeper, more personalized understanding of concrete subject matter. In addition, the program helped nourish individual creativity and develop a school-wide sense of teamwork and collaboration. This enriching experience has been made possible through the dedication of our school council and funds raised through volunteer hours at a casino last June.

Gymnastics Unit begins on Monday March 4th: We are beginning with mat work to build balance and movement skills with a focus on personal safety, prior to introducing a variety of age appropriate gymnastic equipment later in the week. To ensure the safety of our students during this unit of study we ask that students follow some simple rules:

  • All students are required to remove jewelry, head bands and watches.
  • Students are encouraged to wear clothing that will allow a free range of movement. Children may wear shorts and t-shirts under their regular clothing if they wish, changing as needed.
  • Students are required to remove socks and shoes to avoid slipping on the mats and equipment. However, if your child must keep their feet covered (i.e. warts) please send them with ‘grippy’ socks, if possible, or they will be required to put a bandage on the affected area.
  • Students with long hair need to pull it back into a ponytail or braid

School Planning Parent Engagement: Your feedback regarding the School Development Plan, budget and fees is important to us. The feedback will assist us in planning for the upcoming school year. The survey will remain open until March 15, 2024. You can access the survey using this link:  https://silversprings.cbedialogue.com/en/projects/silver-springs-school-2023-24-school-year/engagements/silver-springs-school-planning-survey-2024

Plans for Next Year Survey:  To help us get an accurate count of students returning to Silver Springs School for the 2024-2025 we ask that parents complete this survey for each child in the family ASAP. Accurate enrolment data is key to ensuring we staff accordingly for the next school year. We are currently projected at 270 students for the 2024-2025 school year. As such, an early understanding of our enrolment numbers will be beneficial as we look at grade configurations and school organization beginning next month. We kindly ask that you complete this form no later than March 11, 2024.

Upcoming School Conferences: On March 21st and 22nd, 2024, we are holding our next round of school learning conferences. We will be holding these as student-led conferences for our grade 1-6 students. That means your child will take the lead in sharing their work and some of the learning experiences they engage in at school. You will still be able to connect with your child’s teacher to talk about celebrations and next steps in learning. Thursday, March 21st is a regular school day for students in grades 1-6 (no school for Kindergarten students). Friday, March 22nd there is no school for all students.  To book a School Conference, please login to your MyCBE/PowerSchool parent account and click the link for School Conferences. The booking system will open on Monday, March 11 at 4:30pm.

Lunch Supervision Overdue Accounts: The Student Fees department will be sending any unpaid lunch supervision accounts from the 2022-23 school year to a collection agency starting on Wednesday February 15.  If you still have unpaid fees from last year, you can come into the school office and pay by credit card in the office.  (Cash and cheques not accepted at the school office.)

Tax Receipts for Lunch Supervision: Did you know that you can claim your lunch supervision payment as a childcare expense on your income tax return?  Tax receipts for lunch supervision will be available on your MyCBE/PowerSchool parent account by February 28.  Tax receipts will not be mailed out and will be available online only.  Here are the instructions on how to find your tax receipt on your account.  https://insite.cbe.ab.ca/quicklinks-apps/rycor/Documents/View-Download-Tax-Receipts-for-Parents.pdf
