Dear Silver Springs School Parents and Guardians,
Did you know that Saturday, January 27th is Family Literacy Day in Alberta? What a great time to snuggle up with a great book with your child! We look forward to hearing about the ‘great reads’ occurring at home. Our students continue to access the learning commons for book exchange approximately once a week. We would like to thank Ms. Betiu for sharing her love of books with the students - it is great watching them leave the library cradling their books in their arms like a gift!
Kindergarten Registration for the 2024-25 school year has begun and is on-going. For children to be eligible to register and attend kindergarten next school year, they must turn five years old on or before Dec. 31, 2024. When registering your child for school, there are several things you should consider. Our CBE Kindergarten Registration Guide can help answer many of your questions.
Report Cards will be viewable through your MyCBE account beginning January 30th. Paper copies of report cards will not be sent home. If you have questions regarding the content in your child’s report card, please contact your child’s teacher. If you have questions regarding access to your child’s report card, please contact the school office at 403-777-6070 during regular business hours.
Please note, Kindergarten report cards will look a little different than for our grade 1 to 6 students. In January, progress in only ELAL and Math will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card through both indicators and comments. In June, progress in all discipline areas will be shared through indicators and comments.
CBE 2024-2025 School Calendar: The 2024-2025 CBE instructional calendar has been approved. Please note that the first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024. Please access the calendar using this link.
CBE Education Planning Engagement for Parents: The CBE is seeking parent input to shape the new Education Plan for 2024-2027. Share your insights using this survey.
Scottie’s Curling Tournament: We are pleased to announce that all our grade team applications to Curl Canada for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts tickets have been accepted. We have been awarded complimentary tickets for all our students, staff and volunteers to attend a morning at this event. This half day school off-site activity to the WinSport Arena, will occur on February 20th (Gr. 3 & 4), 21st (Gr. 5 & 6) and 22nd (Gr. 1 & 2), from 8:30am until 11:45am. As spectators for this national event, students will be learning some rules and etiquette of the game, encouraged to cheer on team Alberta, and hopefully gain some inspiration for our upcoming “Rocks and Rings” Physical Education residency in April. Please note that this is a nationally televised event. A $7.00 fee for this trip will be added to your CBE account to cover the cost of bussing.

SCHOOL COUNCIL UPDATES
School Council Meeting: Thank you to everyone who joined us for the School Council Meeting on January 16, 2024. The meeting minutes will be posted to the school website shortly. Our next meeting will be held on February 13, 2024.

A note about Fun Lunches: If your child is absent from school on the day of the fun lunch and you have ordered, please let the front office know if you plan to pick up the snack/lunch when you call the absentee line. Otherwise, the lunch or snack will be donated. We appreciate your understanding.
The remaining fun lunches and snacks have been added to the website for the rest of the school year, so you can logon to your account and select/prepay for any of the dates you wish!
