June 21 is National Indigenous People’s Day in Canada and Silver Springs School would also like to share our 2025-26 Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. We will be working with a Blackfoot Edler named Saa’kokoto in a residency over the course of the 2025-26 school year. In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, Silver Springs School acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action, and makes the following commitment to action for the 2025-2026 school year: Working on the Call to Action 62.3 Utilize Indigenous knowledges, languages, and teaching methods in classrooms (focusing on applying learning that includes inviting Indigenous community members to share knowledge with students). Mind: To Know- We commit to offering our learning of Blackfoot language and culture in kinship with the 4 Domains of the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework in collaboration with a Blackfoot Elder, who will be working side by side with us as a community of learners.

Lastly, I want to share another GIGANTIC THANK YOU to all our Parent Volunteers for your help! You rock! Except for the one smoky day, we had a great two weeks of swimming with wonderful weather and tons of learning, growth and independence for our students!

Educationally yours,
Derek 😊
