Dear Silver Springs School Parents and Guardians,
Fall Break: A reminder that this year the CBE has included a fall break in our calendar. There is no school for students from Thursday, November 9 to Tuesday, November 14. We look forward to seeing them back at school on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
Remembrance Day: Thank you to those families who joined us on Wednesday morning for a lovely Remembrance Day assembly. We are so proud of our students and staff for their hard work in preparing for this ceremony. A solemn and respectful tone was set from the start as we gathered together in a circle. Many thanks to Mrs. Bates and her grade 5/6 students, Ms. Szczepanski and her grade 3/ 4 class, and Miss Milton with her grade 1/ 2 students for leading us in this time of remembrance and reflection. A big thank you to Mrs. Neufeld who led each of the grade groups in beautiful songs of peace, remembrance and love. We were also presented with information and student reflections related to the importance of Remembrance Day, as well as poems and personal letters. I was so proud of all our students for being such a quiet and respectful audience.
CBE Indigenous Education Professional Learning Day: On Thursday, November 9, our Silver Springs School staff gathered together for Maatoomsii' Pookaiks (Children First) Indigenous Education Professional Learning Day. This day of professional learning began in October 2021 and is designed for all staff to develop and apply foundational knowledge of Indigenous Education in the CBE, regardless of role. This year, our system focus for the day was on the heart domain of the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework, examining our work in developing a greater sense of belonging for our students.
Did you know that November is Hindu Heritage Month with Diwali, the festival of lights occurring November 12? What a great opportunity this month to learn more about the Hindu culture and their celebrations.
School Conferences: Our next set of School Conferences are scheduled for Thursday November 23 and Friday November 24. Nov. 23 is a regular school day for students in grades 1-6 (no school for Kindergarten students). Nov 24 there is no school for all students. The booking system will open to parents at 4:00pm on Wednesday, November 15. To book a School Conference, please login to your MyCBE/PowerSchool parent account and click the link for School Conferences.
Lunch Supervision, Bus Fees, and Student Supply Fees: These fees have been added to MyCBE parent accounts as of October 16. The lunch supervision fee is $305/year. The bus fee is $260/year. The student supply fee is $40 (grade 1-6 students) and $20 for Kindergarten students. You can now login and pay all or part of your fees. If you need to apply for a fee waiver, it is better to do it sooner rather than later. Here is a link to information on fee waivers https://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/fees-and-waivers/Pages/Waivers.aspx
Contacting our Front Office: We kindly ask that if you have inquiries about fees and payments, fun lunches (ordering or missed orders), lost and found items, school photos, attendance, volunteering, police checks, or notices, that you contact Mrs. Bouchart directly in our front office at 403-777-6070 or mlbouchart@cbe.ab.ca.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp,
Principal, Silver Springs School
