Dear Silver Springs School Parents and Guardians,
Upcoming School Conferences: On Thursday, November 23th from 4:00 – 7:30 and Friday, November 24th from 8:30 –1:00, we will be holding our second round of School Conferences. To allow for greater flexibility for our families' schedules, we will be offering conferences both in-person and online using Microsoft Teams. In-person meetings will be held on Thursday evening and both in-person and on-line meetings will be available on Friday. To book a School Conference, please login to your MyCBE/PowerSchool parent account and click the link for School Conferences.
Teachers look forward to this opportunity to communicate openly about student learning, especially with respect to your child's areas of strength and areas of growth. We also see this as an opportunity to build and sustain respectful relationships that allow both parties to share information and develop strategies to support student success. These 15-minute conferences are important for families to attend, along with your child, as they form part of the ongoing communication regarding student progress throughout the year. Please note that if you ever have questions about your child’s learning, we invite you to contact your child’s teacher directly – communication is not just at conference time.
Scholastic Book Fair: Mark your calendars! The excitement of a Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school next week! Students will be invited to browse the book fair on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning when they will be creating a wish list. Buying begins on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 –11:30 and will continue Thursday evening and Friday morning during our School Conference times. All purchases benefit our school and earn rewards that can be redeemed for books and educational resources for our classrooms and library collection.
The Giving Tree:The Giving Tree is a kindness initiative at Silver Springs School. Through this generosity project, we would like to support families in our own school community who need a little extra support and love during the holiday season. A tree will be set up in the Learning Commons during conference time. If you are able, take a tag and purchase the gift item or gift card specified for our families in need. Please bring the unwrapped gift or gift card and the tag to the school office by Friday, December 15, 2023 so that the gifts can get to the families in time for the holidays.
Lunch Supervision, Bus Fees, and Student Supply Fees: These fees have been added to MyCBE parent accounts as of October 16. The lunch supervision fee is $305/year. The bus fee is $260/year. The student supply fee is $40 (grade 1-6 students) and $20 for Kindergarten students. You can now login and pay all or part of your fees. If you need to apply for a fee waiver, it is better to do it sooner rather than later. Here is a link to information on fee waivers https://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/fees-and-waivers/Pages/Waivers.aspx
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp,
Principal, Silver Springs School
