Dear SS Parents and Guardians  

I am so ready for the weekend but wanted to say that I am so glad all of our safety processes worked yesterday, and each and every one of our students went home yesterday safe and sound. I am going to send home a further email with more information about traffic safety and reminders for the roads in front of the school to help keep our kids safe. I am working on a map to go along with it and will send it out to all parents next week. 

In the meantime, and in between time, stay safe, and have another edition of a great weekend! (Bonus points if you catch the reference above from Calgary Legend Ed Whalen!)

Terry Fox Run Information  

The 2025 Terry Fox School Run is set for Friday September 19, 2025 and we are so excited to be taking part!  

Students will be running with the whole school in the morning, and we will begin with a kick off assembly at 9:30 am. We ask that students wear their buddy group color if they can on this day (Blue, Red or Green). 

If your family wishes to participate in donating to The Terry Fox Foundation in support of cancer research, the Foundation has created an online fundraising page customized for our school. Please use this method to donate rather than sending cash to the school.

School Council Casino Fundraiser Results 

Last spring, the School Council and Parent Association raised $88,241.00!!! Wowsers! Thank you soooooooooooo much to everyone who volunteered and to everyone on the School Council and Parent Association for all of their support for the students at Silver Springs School! You all rock! 

Grade 6 YMCA Pass 

It's a chance for Calgary's youth to engage, connect and grow. Every grade six student in Calgary is eligible to receive a free YMCA 13-month membership to the YMCA, thanks to the generous support of the Calgary Flames Foundation. 

This program supports youth as they transition out of traditional childcare, develop new interests, and prepare for junior high. It offers a safe place for kids to practice independence, develop healthy habits, and build a sense of community while promoting respect, honesty, caring, and responsibility. 
Program Highlights 

  • Free YMCA membership: Valid for the entire Grade six school year. August 1, 2025 - August 31, 2026.  
  • Access to all locations: Kids can visit any YMCA Calgary location independently.  
  • Special Events: Including Flames Friday activities, sports nights, science, art, and game nights. 
  • Tournaments and Activities: Grade six city-wide events and weekly planned activities.  
  • Member Benefits: Discounts up to 25% on programs and day camps, and one free guest admission every month. 
  • Leadership opportunities: Participation in surveys, focus groups, and other leadership activities.
