Dear SS Parents and Guardians,
I love the Terry Fox Run and our students did an amazing job running for Terry! It is so awesome to see our kids out there keeping Terry’s legacy going. When Terry started his Marathon of Home in April of 1980 (I was only 10 years old!), his goal was to raise $1 million dollars for cancer research, which he did and then raised much more. Today, more than $900 million has been raised in Terry Fox’s name. Who says a 21-year-old Canadian kid can start something amazing!
You can still donate online for Terry at our Silver Springs School link.
Work hard, learn, lots, and be kind to one another!
Educationally yours,
Derek 😊

Outdoor School for Grade 5/6 Students!
From Tuesday, October 21 to Friday October 24, 2025, all grade 5/6 classes will go to Camp Chief Hector, which is part of the Rocky Mountain YMCA for Outdoor School. This is an absolutely amazing program that I have been able to go to 13 times previously with students. The learning and the independence that students gain from going to Outdoor School are absolutely phenomenal.
Camp Chief Hector programs are based on the Alberta curriculum and include team building and initiative tasks, the ECOnomy Game, Predator vs. Prey, studying Eco-systems in person, Outdoor Living Skills, climate and climate impacts, shelter building, and an Exploration Day Hike. Students can expect to spend their time here exploring the natural world through a fun and interactive overnight camp setting. Students will be required to pack for all weather and meals will be provided by the program.
