Dear SS Parents and Guardians

Even though there were a few hiccups this week, it has turned out to be a fantastic week! We have had some absolutely fantastic days with our students. Today we had our first assembly of the year and the students got to meet Saa’kokoto, a Blackfoot elder who is going to be working with us throughout the year to learn about indigenous ways of knowing and being and indigenous history. The knowledge we learned is specifically about his people who have lived on the land around Calgary and Southern Alberta for thousands of years. Each grade level will be directly connecting this work to the new Alberta Social Studies curriculum, of which there are huge connections to this topic. It was all very intriguing and we learned many many things about his language and culture. One thing that stuck out for me was the meaning of the word N’Aa, as in the new N’Aa Drive over near COP. It is pronounced "nah ah,” and is the Blackfoot word for “Grandmother.”

Work hard, learn, lots, and be kind to one another!

Educationally yours,
Derek 😊

On Thursday evening, September 11, 2025, you will have the opportunity to attend 1 of 3 repeat face-to-face sessions at 4:30 pm, 5:00 pm and 5:30 pm to meet your child’s Homeroom Teacher and learn about their classroom, communication, and expectations for students. The sessions will be repeated 3 times so you can attend when works best for you or attend the sessions for you other kids.
You DO NOT need to sign up or book at time. Just show up for the session that works best for you. This will be more focused for parent’s needs and questions, so we do ask that students stay home, if possible, please.
